How does a partisan primary work?
This is a partisan primary, which means voters can only vote for candidates in one party. Voters will choose the ballot for whichever party they want to vote within, and they cannot mix-and-match candidates across parties. For example, someone could not vote for a Democratic candidate for governor and a Republican candidate for State Assembly.
Key Dates for Registration and Absentee Voting
July 22 is the deadline to register to vote by mail or online. You can also register at the polls on election day. You will need to provide a Proof of Residence document.
July 28 is the first day of in-person absentee voting (also called “early voting”). Hours vary depending on where you live, so check here to see what your local municipality offers.
August 6 is the last day to request an absentee ballot for most voters.
Finally, remember that Wisconsin requires voters to present an acceptable photo ID.
